Still-Life
Oval brown bowl quail golds of cracked glaze
Mists of grapes cluster dust with limelight
Yellow cheese blue piked through rust of armour
damp as dew and crumbling in the room's right clime
Dark tobacco smoke twines blue from the palate
With a rustle behind you somewhere says silence
Spreads out its hair along white afternoons
Where grandfathers doze inside the ivied house
in armchairs of cinnamon the sun high
loitering in between the plane leaves
strolling on the cobbles on the greywhite wall
In the tigerlily garden water limps
through thickly-leaved jungles of vanilla
the lovelong day all spiderweaving webs
nuance small cafés' ripe aquarium light
through fascination for the frostglass soda siphon
Watercolour blocks cracked with enamel
the smells of pantry food urine natural
Cockaine of quince and of indelible
